SA8000 Certification
SA8000:2026 is the international social accountability standard developed by Social Accountability International (SAI). An SA8000 certificate confirms that your organization upholds decent work principles, protects worker rights and ensures ethical employment conditions across all levels of the value chain. The standard is based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, ILO conventions, and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. Imperium Certific conducts certification audits in accordance with SA8000:2026 requirements.

SA8000 Certification Process
The SA8000 certification process has its own specifics that distinguish it from ISO standard certification.
Stage 1 — Application and Preliminary Review — The organization submits a certification application. We analyze the scope of activities, number of workers, locations, supply chain structure, country risks and labour relations specifics to determine the audit scope.
Stage 2 — Mandatory Self-Assessment — In accordance with SA8000:2026 requirements, the organization conducts a self-assessment using SAI-defined tools. The self-assessment helps identify internal gaps and prepare for the external audit.
Stage 3 — Stage 1 Audit (Documentation Review) — Social management system readiness assessment: review of policies, procedures, worker rights risk assessments, grievance mechanisms and supply chain due diligence procedures.
Stage 4 — Stage 2 Audit (On-site) — The audit team conducts an on-site audit with mandatory worker interviews. Reviewed areas: working conditions, working hours, wages and benefits, health and safety, freedom from discrimination, child and young worker protection, freedom from forced labour, freedom of association, privacy.
Stage 5 — Certification Decision — An audit report with scoring assessment against SA8000:2026 criteria is prepared. The certification decision is made based on the level of conformity achieved.
Stage 6 — Certificate Issuance — The SA8000 certificate is issued for a 3-year period with mandatory surveillance audits every 6 months.
Stage 7 — Surveillance Audits — Surveillance audits are conducted every 6 months (more frequently than for ISO standards). A recertification audit is conducted before the certificate expires.

FAQ
ISO 45001 focuses on occupational health and safety. SA8000 covers a much broader range of social issues: prohibition of child and forced labour, decent pay, working hours, freedom from discrimination, freedom of association, privacy and supply chain due diligence.
SA8000:2026 introduces a new structure (11 principles, 10 management criteria M1–M10, 7 decent work criteria D1–D7), mandatory self-assessment, scoring methodology replacing the pass/fail approach, expanded value chain responsibility, new requirements for living wage, psychosocial risks and privacy.
SA8000 surveillance audits are conducted every 6 months — twice as frequently as most ISO standards. This ensures continuous monitoring of social standards compliance.
