ISO 50001 Certification
ISO 50001:2018 is the international standard specifying requirements for energy management systems (EnMS). An ISO 50001 certificate confirms that your organization systematically manages energy consumption, improves energy performance and reduces energy costs. Imperium Certific is a certification body accredited by the National Accreditation Agency of Ukraine (NAAU). We conduct certification audits in accordance with ISO 50001:2018 requirements.
Who Is ISO 50001 Certification For
ISO 50001 applies to any organization with significant energy consumption seeking to systematically manage energy performance. Certification is particularly relevant for:
Industrial enterprises
— metallurgy, chemical industry, mechanical engineering, building materials, glass and cement production
Energy companies
— power generation, heat supply, gas distribution, renewable energy
Utility companies
— water utilities, district heating, municipal services
Commercial and logistics complexes
— large shopping centres, warehousing, cold chain operations
Transport companies
— road freight, rail, aviation
Construction and development companies
— building energy management, green building projects
Any organization
— with significant energy costs as a share of operating expenses
Benefits of ISO 50001 Certification
ISO 50001 certification is a systematic energy management tool that delivers measurable savings and strategic advantages.
-
Reduced energy costs — systematic analysis of energy consumption, baseline establishment and energy performance indicators (EnPIs) identify and deliver savings opportunities
-
Regulatory compliance — EnMS implementation helps meet Ukraine's Energy Efficiency Law, EU Energy Efficiency Directive and other regulatory requirements
-
Reduced carbon footprint — lower energy consumption directly reduces greenhouse gas emissions and supports climate commitments
-
ESG criteria compliance — certification confirms the energy and environmental component of ESG strategy for investors, banks and partners
-
Access to financing — ISO 50001 certification may be a requirement or advantage for green loans, international donor grants and energy efficiency project financing
-
Integration with other standards — ISO 50001 is built on the High-Level Structure (HLS), simplifying integration with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001

ISO 50001 Certification Process
The certification process at Imperium Certific complies with ISO/IEC 17021-1 requirements and NAAU accreditation.
Stage 1 — Application and Preliminary Review — The organization submits an application. We analyze energy consumption volumes and types, number of locations and energy system complexity to determine the audit scope.
Stage 2 — Stage 1 Audit (Documentation Review) — EnMS readiness assessment: energy policy, energy review, energy baselines (EnB) and energy performance indicators (EnPI), significant energy uses (SEUs), objectives and action plans.
Stage 3 — Stage 2 Audit (On-site) — Practical functioning verification: energy data collection and analysis, SEU operational control, energy procurement, energy-efficient design, EnPI monitoring, staff competence.
Stage 4 — Certification Decision — An audit report is prepared. The certification decision is made independently of the audit team, ensuring impartiality.
Stage 5 — Certificate Issuance — The ISO 50001 certificate is issued for 3 years. Certification information is entered into the Imperium Certific register.
Stage 6 — Surveillance Audits — Annual surveillance audits confirm continuous improvement of energy performance and EnMS operation. Recertification audit is conducted before certificate expiry.

FAQ
Results depend on the industry and initial energy management maturity. According to international studies, organizations implementing ISO 50001 reduce energy consumption by an average of 10–20% within the first years after certification.
An energy audit is a one-time assessment that identifies savings opportunities. ISO 50001 is a management system providing ongoing energy performance management, including planning, implementation, monitoring and continual improvement through the PDCA cycle.
Yes, both standards are built on the High-Level Structure (HLS) and share common elements. Combined audits reduce overall cost and duration. Energy management is a natural complement to environmental management.
